In an era where wellness takes center stage, the importance of consistent and high-quality sleep has gained significant recognition, particularly in balancing the demands of fast-paced urban lifestyles in the GCC. Recognizing this, Four Seasons recently commissioned a region-wide YouGov survey to delve into the sleep habits and behaviours of GCC residents. The findings shed light on sleep trends and guide the luxury hospitality brand in refining its offerings to prioritize rest and rejuvenation for guests in the region and beyond.
The State of Sleep in the GCC
The survey, which included 2,727 respondents, revealed critical insights into the region’s sleep patterns:
- Sleep Duration: While 51% of respondents sleep six to eight hours nightly, only 19% achieve the recommended eight or more hours, with 24% regularly clocking less than six hours.
- Perceived Importance of Sleep: Sixty-two percent of GCC residents consider sleep “very important” to their overall well-being. Women (67%) and married individuals with children (65%) prioritize sleep more than men (59%) or singles (55%).
- Sleep Deprivation Symptoms: Fatigue (58%), headaches (56%), and low energy (52%) were common among sleep-deprived respondents, particularly those aged 45 and above (65%).
- Regional Differences: Sleep habits varied across the GCC, with Bahrain leading in average sleep duration (56% achieving six to eight hours), while KSA and Kuwait lagged (48%).
Transforming Hotels Into Sleep Sanctuaries
For many travelers, the perfect night’s sleep is a hallmark of an exceptional stay. Four Seasons is leveraging these insights to enhance the sleep experience by focusing on key amenities:
- Essential Comforts: High-quality mattresses and pillows (62%), temperature control (61%), soundproofing (53%), and blackout curtains (51%) were the most valued features by respondents.
- Gendered Insights: Men (53%) reported slightly better sleep quality in hotels compared to women (51%), prompting opportunities for tailored offerings.

A growing segment of high-level professionals and wellness-focused travelers is embracing “sleepcations”—getaways designed to optimize rest and rejuvenation. Four Seasons is meeting this demand with innovative offerings:
